  • Almost a Stranger

I have not posted for approximately, almost exactly, three years. I feel as though I am standing on the edge of a circle that I want to be in but I can’t quite get through the doors (yes, this circle has doors).

It was a very busy three years, during which (you may have gathered from my profile picture), I married my man. But now I feel able and in a place to begin writing on here again but it is hard to know where to start. (plus there is a small part of me that would like to just jump back into being uber popular like I totally was).

Therefore, if you are reading this, I have approximately two questions for you (it is actually three)….

    1) How are you? What have you been doing for the last three years?

    2) What should I write about?

It will be lovely to hear from anyone who wishes to make a comment, and if you don’t then I hope you are well and everything is good.

    Love from

    Claire

  • 1a. I am doing quite well. In fact, I think I’m happier and better off than I’ve ever been in my adult life.

1b. Breathing. Oh, there was also that episode after Christmas last year where I lost my job, searched for work, ended up taking a new job three states away, gave away practically everything in my apartment to Goodwill, packed everything else into a compact car and drove 650 miles overnight to a new location and a new life. But mostly, breathing.

    2. Obviously you should write about how much you missed me. Or you can write about how you came into possession of those two penguins.

  • @randomneuralfirings - I’m assuming since you are happier and better off that packing up and starting a new life in a new place was a good thing to have done? I am very happy for you. I will keep your two suggestions in mind for my future writings.

  • This is a comment!

Welcome to the outer circle. I’ve done the same thing you have (though without the three-year absence). It’s a lot more fun out here… it’s where the cool kids go

  • @Garistotle - We are pretty cool, that is true.

  • Whoa! You’re back! I’ve missed you. I saw your xanga card that Riis posted on fb and was like “OMG Claire! She’s alive.” BTW congrats on getting married. So happy for you!

Now to answer your questions. I am well. The past three years are kind of a blur though. It contained some school, making jewelry, asshole ex-bfs and church. Yup, that about sums it up.
Hmmm, can’t help you with the next question. I can barely figure out what to write about myself.

  • I also saw your return on Riis page and Karoline’s *happy dance*

    1) I quit my job to go back to school, getting my post-grad with high honours. I couldn’t find a job and ran out of money due to the extreme expense of living in the big city, so I’m back living with my parents while working part-time as a receptionist… but I’m also doing freelance editing in my spare time. I just finished a performing “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde as Cecily (you can see the pictures on my blog), and am now doing National Novel Writing Month (which I’ve not yet written about, but will).
    2) As for what you should write about, that’s obvious: What the heck have YOU been up to these past three years? And post some of those wedding photos for us to ooh and aww over

  • @SimplyNita - Yes I am back! I thought that I had commented on one of your posts to say so. But now that I think about it, I think I got distracted and went back reading several of your posts and then forgot to comment on any of them! Oops. I am glad you are well though, I gathered that you are having some struggles from what I read but I hope you are managing to work through them. I will go and actually comment on your posts now!

@SUMRdaisy - similar situation to Nita, I thought I had announced my return on your xanga too but I must have just read several posts and failed to comment! I read about The Importance of Being Earnest, that is so cool! I love that play, I have seen it performed several times and I also love the film. I love Oscar Wilde in general really and I’m sure you did Cecily credit. Yay to doing your post-grad but boo to running out of money. It sounds like you are doing lots of awesome things as well as working as a receptionist so I’m sure it will all work out

  • I shall take up the task of returning you to your former glory as the [insert pseudo-British ruling title of choice] of Xanga.

  • @MyxlDove - I consider myself a Duchess.

  • @happyworld_ofharibo - Duchess it is then. I shall promote Duchess Claire to the masses.

  • @MyxlDove - Thank you kind Sir, the Queen will be sure to reward your generosity!

  • I am doing fine, I suppose. Quite a lot has happened to me personally over the past three years and it’s been a bit of a struggle. I haven’t written about any of it on Xanga, not sure I’m ready to share things yet. But maybe someday.

I’m not sure what to suggest you write about. I’ve been having a hard time coming up with things to write about myself. I’ve only done a handful of entries in the past couple years or so. Haven’t been around Xanga much at all really. Many people left and with all my personal goings-on I just never felt like writing. But maybe I’ll come back more often now that you’re here again.

  • @Persiankitty -  well I hope that you are coming through all the struggling and though I doubt there is anything I can do or say to help, you know I would if I could. I have been finding out today on my xanga explorations how many people have closed their xangas while I’ve been away which is a little sad. I am glad you are still here though even if not very much and I will read anything that you do choose to write! Xx

  • Wow, it’s been three years?

I’m pretty good. During the last three years, I applied to graduate school a couple times and have not been accepted. Yet? Also, I had a job that I hated for awhile, but kept getting promoted (it was retail) so I still stayed for two years, but I recently quit and it’s THE BEST. And I moved to St. Louis, MO, and I bought a house, and I got married! And I got a dog? (Yes, I did get a dog, I was just trying to remember if that happened before you left or not.)
