  • NewsFlash – I am a genius!

A big part of the unit I am currently doing in university is surrounded around group work. You know to build up my ‘team working skills’ and crap like that. They fail to realise that working in a team in a nursery setting with people who all care equally about the result, and working in a group of university people most of whom I neither know nor particularly care about are two completely different situations to me. Team working at work is great, it isn’t for a final product, its for an on-going development. Team working at uni? Not so great.

Now this may make me sound really vain (which lets face it, is true) but while working on my own I have always got pretty damn good marks. I really hate the fact that MY mark is going to be influenced by the work (or lack of work) of others. I can’t tell them that my ideas are better then theirs and that I can write it better then them. I have to pretend to care about what they are saying, and then the final product is just no way near as good as it would have been if I had done it myself. Yes, I know, I sound like I am really up myself. But if I get a bad mark on something I did on my own, I can cope with that because I know that I should have worked harder. And I rarely ever get bad marks on my own work.

In order to assess our methods of working and our team working skills we had to take the Belbin test. Apparently according to this I am a Plant. I am an individual, serious minded and I am unorthodox. I am independent, clever, and original. It lists the strengths of a Plant as ‘genius, imagination, intellect and knowledge’ and the weaknesses as being ‘up in the clouds, inclined to disregard practical details or protocol’.

In short, I am a genius. So take THAT group members.

  • There’s no “I” in team, evil english baroness.

  • @Paul_Partisan - You are just jealous because you aren’t a genius like I am

  • This is your chance to discover and develop your inner tyrant.

  • Well of COURSE you’re a genius. We didn’t the results of some silly test to know that

I totally sympathize with you on the team work thing. I completely loathed team work in school. Especially when the teachers decided to choose our teams for us. I always ended up with idiots who didn’t know what they were doing, and/or lazy bastards who didn’t care and barely contributed and then I had to pick up the slack. A few times I got really bad marks because of the jerks I had to work with. *sigh* Like you, I much prefer to work on my own. When working with groups I don’t feel I have enough control over the work to get the mark I want. It’s incredibly frustrating.

  • Pfft… that isn’t news.

  • Was there ever any doubt?

  • i had a love/hate relationship with group assignments as well. if i was grouped with friends it was fun and we usually got fairly good grades, when i was stuck with idiots… well, you know the rest. i had some great study groups though, not that we actually studied so much as hit the pub *L0L*

we all know you’re a genius! i wanna take that test now though just because i am amused it has a category called “plant”
    SUMR

  • Hmmmm…..   ” The Plant bears a strong resemblance to the popular caricature of the absentminded professor-inventor, and often has a hard time communicating ideas to others.” Yep, I’d go with genius too, lol
